CHANGE IS COMING

Updates are back up!

It's been a few months, but our updates have finally been fixed! REJOICE, PEOPLES!

For those of you who haven't been around lately, the first installment of Season 12 came and went (and it sucked), we faked a forum crash for our April Fools' gag, and Junkman released Kenny Puzzler 2, which is a pretty damn good game. You should definitely check it out if you haven't done so already. Comments can be made on the game here.

In the meantime, new member JVM has announced a new project, South Park Water Balloons. There is a version of the game already available online but he is working on a new and improved one. Polygon also made a brief appearance on the forums to post a video of South Park Super Mario World (SPSMB 3). The project has since been cancelled but it was still pretty damn impressive-looking, so you can check out the video on YouTube if you haven't already. Finally, an intriguing thread on the forums has gotten people talking - what do you make of it?

One thing's for sure - we're back, baby! w00g! Over 'n out.

Forum "hacking"

So, yes, the hacking was an April Fool's joke. Originally the forums were locked off with a message "HACKED BY TURKISH HACKER S. LOOF LIRPA" (April Fools backwards), and I don't know who changed them back, but, there you go, for anyone who didn't see it.

For those who did, I'm guessing no one fell for it anyway. tongue.gif

Over 'n out.

An update? A new unfinished game? Holy space cows!

Greetings, everyone. It's been certainly quite a while since I last updated. And what better thing to celebrate such an event by releasing a brand new game out of nowhere!

To be fair, it isn't a full game, nor is it new. This was one of the projects I was working on prior to my retirement announcement back in early 2006, and I stopped work on it since first of all, I wasn't really having any fun working on it at all, plus I lost the source of it in a freak hard drive accident that deleted almost every single game I worked on in the past years. What's particular about this game is that it was a game of a genre that wasn't tackled on much in the community, even less by me: the beat-em-up game.

The game is called Kyle Street Brawler, and by the title, it was obviously based upon that totally wacky beat-em-up game on the Commodore 64 computer called Bad Street Brawler (I'm not talking about that abortion of a NES port which is ghastly) in which you controlled some yellow diaper freak fighting his way through old people with swords, grannies smacking you with their purses and... basketball players. In this South Park adaptation of the game, you controlled Kyle, and you had to fight similarly inane enemies, as various people of South Park attack you with wiffle bats or dart guns. At least, these are the enemies you'll be fighting in this very short 1-level demo that never actually was meant for public release, but since the full game will never see the light of the day, why would we let it go to waste? Anyway, here is the game in it's alpha version glory!

DOWNLOAD KYLE STREET BRAWLER HERE

Since this version is so early, it doesn't even include controls, so here they are:

Arrow keys - Move around
Up arrow key - Jump
Down arrow key - Duck
Control - Punch

You can also use extra powerful moves in order to kill enemies even quickier! All of these deplete your power bar by 10 squares. A green bar equals 10 squares, yellow is 20, red is 30. That means you can pull off three special moves in a row when you're fully powered up.

Forward + Punch - Drill Punch
Back + Punch - Roundhouse Kick
Up + Punch - Big Fist

Reach the end of the stage without dying or running out of time! You must eliminate all enemies before you can progress through the stage.

Anyway, that's enough info for this game, hope you have fun with this blast from the past! If you enjoyed this game, please let us know in the forums. Thanks for reading!

CHANGE IN STAFF

Holy German Pope, how much has happened in South Park Gaming this year?! Already, we've had game announcements galore (inlcuding a new mystery game from Stanster, for those who haven't seen it)... And now, something big. For the first time in over a year, THERE HAS BEEN A CHANGE MADE TO THE SOUTH PARK GAMING ARCHIVES' STAFF.

For those who need a history lesson here, Junkman quit early in 2006, prompting us to hire two replacements: RFI was made an admin and Knuckles Owns GC was made a moderator. When Junkman returned at the end of that year, both remained in power. We agreed that the staff-to-member ratio on the boards is too high, and so, RFI has now been made a moderator (or, will be soon - we're having a bit of trouble here, hopefully it'll all be sorted soon) and Knuckles Owns GC is back to being a regular member. I just want to make this very clear to everyone that this decision was absolutely NOT personal. I think our staff are fantastic and appreciate everything they have done for the site, but we simply didn't need so many to monitor this one site. Kudos to Knuckles for stepping down so graciously, and thanks for everything!

But, that's not all that's happened today, oh no. Junkman made a big announcement on the forums, posting a preview of the brand new, upcoming "KENNY PUZZLER 2 - VERTICAL DIMENSION." You can check out the preview in full by clicking here, but here's a picture to wet your appetite:

Finally, WE HAVE NEW BUTTONS, which can be seen just under SPGA's main index, or at the end of this update. We encourage all of our affiliates to use them if they like! As you can see, they're all game character images from the logo projected over screenshots of different games. First forum member to identify every game screenshot wins a Point! And speaking of the forums, if you'd like to comment on Junkman's neat preview, you can do so in this thread. 'Til next time, over 'n out!

Second Update of O-Eight

Hopefully you guys aren't tired for game previews by now. So far this year, we've had Scott Ewart's promising Return of the LOTR and the sweet Retroness of Tower of the Forsaken Jew 1987 by Jzayed and RFI. And now, you have a preview of game by ME.

http://www.spgarchives.com/extras/benchmarkandpreview.zip

Its actually a hybrid preview/benchmark. As players of my previous games know, they have been a bit slow so this time I've decided to release a test of the engine. This shouldn't be confused with a demo since there is no game play but you can use the arrow keys to manipulate stuff. Anyways, PLEASE download it, run it and report back your average FPS and system specs to help me make this game actually playable for the majority of people.

Anyway, keep watching for new updates, and be sure to check out the other projects mentioned earlier, too!
